The Police have arrested one person in connection with the gruesome murder of Vera Uwaila Omozuwa, the 22-year-old 100-level student of the University of Benin.
Omozua was raped and then murdered by her assailants while she was reading in a Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG) in Benin City.
The development has sparked various reactions both on and off social media with everyone demanding justice and the arrest of the perpetrators.
The Edo State Police Command has now confirmed the arrest of one of the suspects linked to the rape and murder of Miss Omozuwa.
The Edo State Police Command Spokesperson, Chidi Nwabuzor while confirming the development, noted that the suspect was arrested after the fingerprint on the fire extinguisher she was attacked with was examined.
“The item used in the assault, which was a fire extinguisher, was recovered, immediately the operatives who were with some specialists screened the finger prints which led to our suspect,” Nwabuzor said.
On Monday, the Inspector general of Police, IGP Adamu dispatched forensic experts, as well as additional personnel, and equipment to Edo State to help speed up the investigations.
