Speaker of Anambra State House of Assembly, Uche Okafor, narrowly escaped a motor accident on Saturday night. Insiders told Punch that the accident occurred at Agu-Awka Junction in Awka, Anambra State capital. The Speakers car was damaged beyond recognition during the incident. Eyewitnesses told the publication that it was the second accident that occurred that night. Emechetas friend reportedly rushed to the scene of the accident with some of his aides and took him to the hospital. A source said; On their way home from the hospital, the Speaker stopped at the scene of the accident and tried to pick up important documents and other personal belongings of Chief Emecheta, which were left in his damaged vehicle to avoid losing them to vandals.It was while searching for the items that another trailer lost control of its brake and hit the already damaged Emechetas car while the Speaker was inside. The trailer also hit the speakers car which he parked by the roadside, with the Speaker escaping just by a whisker. The Speaker and his aides did not sustain any injury, the vehicle was badly damaged The former Managing Director of Anambra State Signage and Advertisement Agency, Chief Jude Emecheta, had an accident at the same junction that left him unconscious, with his car damaged beyond repair.
